These days everyone is looking to earn a quick buck online without much effort. That’s exactly how I stumbled across Survey Junkie*. I was looking for easy ways to make money online in my spare time that would require little to no brainpower.

Survey Junkie has lived up to my expectations, even exceeding them at times with the platform’s ease of use and seamless payout options. Read on for my full Survey Junkie review of my experience over the past several months.

What is Survey Junkie?

Survey Junkie is a site and mobile application that allows you to participate in surveys in return for cash. It is one of several sites that exist to connect marketers and retailers with the patrons who consume their products and can provide useful feedback.

How does Survey Junkie work?

You make money on Survey Junkie by earning points from completing surveys. Points translate 1 to 1 with cents. So 500 points = $5.00. You’ll receive a series of emails throughout the day as surveys are available, or you can simply log in and try to qualify for as many surveys as possible.

How many points until you can get paid?

Survey Junkie will offer an option to payout once you reach 500 points, or $5, in your account.  Depending on the amounts of the surveys you qualify for, it can take from 5 to 20 or more surveys to reach $5.  I generally try to do 2-3 surveys a day and average cashing out from Survey Junkie once a week.  If you dedicate more time or if you happen to qualify for more, or higher-paying, surveys a cashout could happen a lot more frequently.

How does Survey Junkie pay you?

There are three Survey Junkie payout options: PayPal, a bank transfer, and gift cards from various merchants.

I set up a bank account for direct deposit, which was a seamless process.  All I have to do now is choose to cash out, receive a confirmation code in my email, and the transfer shows up in my account the same day.

Is Survey Junkie legit?

The answer is yes. Survey Junkie is a legit site that will pay you out actual dollars for taking surveys and providing your opinion.  Is it going to be enough to make a living?  Absolutely not, and Survey Junkie will be the first to tell you that.  But it could result in $20-$100 more dollars in your pocket each month depending on how much time you want to spend.

Are surveys hard to qualify for?

According to Survey Junkie, you’ll qualify for an average of one out of every five surveys.  My experience has been about that, if not a bit higher.  The nice thing is, most of the surveys still give you anywhere from one to three cents for answering the screening questions.  So it’s rare that you step through the screening questions and wind up with nothing.

What are screening questions?

Screening questions are how the companies providing the survey can narrow down the types of participants they need. For example, a company that’s trying to survey people about dog treats will ask a screening question about the pets you own to narrow the audience to only people who have dogs.

The most common screening questions will ask you to input your age, gender, zip code, state of residence, race, ethnicity, and sometimes income level. If you are uncomfortable in any way with providing these details repeatedly, then online surveys are not for you.

The Daily Survey

In addition to the surveys you have to qualify to take, Survey Junkie also offers a daily 10 point survey. The daily poll is no more than about six questions and lasts less than a minute.  That means by doing these surveys alone, you could cash out $5 in under two months with seconds of work per day.  I think of these daily surveys as taking the time to pick up a dime off the ground every day—definitely the easiest way to make money on this site.

Do I need to pay taxes?

Consult a tax professional for a legitimate answer. But from what I have read, you will want to report earnings from Survey Junkie as earned income on your taxes.

Pro Tips from a Junkie

Scan the options: Survey Junkie recommends starting with surveys at the top, but I always do a quick scan to see what’s available.  Given a choice between a 45 point survey estimated at 10 minutes and one estimated at 22 minutes, it’s a no brainer which to try for first.

Take action on emails quickly if you can: After you sign up, you’ll start to receive emails for both the daily questions and any high paying surveys or ones that you might qualify for easily.  With how quickly these surveys fill up, I try to check out the emails if I’m not already in the middle of something else.  It goes without saying that if you’re at work or in the middle of something important, definitely don’t stop your day to make 25 cents on a survey.

Do surveys in your downtime: I’m not much of a tv watcher, but if I do end up watching something, I generally turn to surveys after I lose interest.  It’s a simple way to make a few bucks sitting on the sofa when you wouldn’t be doing anything but being a zombie anyways.

The final word

Overall, I give Survey Junkie a big stamp of approval as a legit, easy way to make extra money. The site is designed with the user in mind, surveys are easy to navigate, and getting paid is simple. This is a great side gig if you’re looking to make a few bucks more at the end of the month by doing something in your spare time that requires little to no effort.
